Seafood restaurant near the marina. Eating crab is a lot of work for not so much food, but it’s pretty good. Also the spicy fried calamari was awesome.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is an old-fashioned amusement park. They had fireworks to celebrate the anniversary of their rollercoaster from 1924.

Sunday: Golden Gate Bridge to Point Reyes National Seashore

Highway 1 winds along the California coast: the Pacific to the left and giant rolling hills to the right. Two lanes, hilly with sharp curves, no passing, no items, Fox only, Final Destination.

Muir beach. John Muir is da man.

Not pictured: old-growth redwood forest in Muir Woods, Point Reyes seashore, the San Andreas fault etc.

GPS is the best thing since wide-slot toasters that can fit bagels.

Japantown: tried to order in Japanese, turns out the waitress was Chinese and only knew Welcome and Thank you

found that a $1.50 bus ticket is good all day long because nobody checks the expiry time

Went to Yosemite. Amazing rocks and trees.

Glacier Point view

- biked across the Golden Gate bridge

- had seafood and Napa wine with a view of the bay and the city

- took a ferry back to Fisherman’s Wharf

- cable car ride back to Market, hanging on to the side

It turns out that SF and the surrounding areas are really really chilly. Also apparently it has microclimates according to wikipedia, which is a fancy way of saying that some parts of the city are slightly less chilly than others. Ok.

San Bruno so far feels like the run-of-the-mill suburban strip mall experience that I mostly only saw on TV for the last few years.

Will head to SF tomorrow.
